Adding Sound

Adding sound I think is one of the easiest things to do. All you have to do is create a new keyframe and insert a second layer to it and put the sound in it. It sounds difficult but is very easy once you learn it. This has definitely taught me a lot more things about adding sound and putting it into my game!

Adding Input II: Mouse

Adding Input II: Mouse was very confusing because it had a lot of the same things as adding animation but we had to deal with seperate scenes and buttons which wasn't very easy. It took me a while to get it done becaus the code was incorrect. When it comes to coding the smallest things whether it is one letter or number or symbol can ruin the whole code. That's what made this tutorial so difficult. I used a basketball and a basketball rim in this tutorial and you had to drag the ball into the hoop. I hope to add this into my final game!

Adding input I: Keyboard

Adding Input I: keyboard was a new experience for me because I did not use it in my game last year. The keyboarding is going to be the most important thing in my game this year. In ModStory you have to fly the character around the screen to correct grammar and punctuation errors. I created a fish swimming in the ocean for this tutorial. It came out very well but struggled making it. If you hit the up arrow it would go the opposite direction but was soon fixed.

Adding Animation

Adding Animation was a little difficult because this is the stage where you start working with frames and movie clips. It also has a tiny bit of coding in it. In my opinion, adding animation is very difficult. It might just be me but I have a hard time working with frames and movie clips. This tutorial helped me out a lot because i'm hoping to add a good amount of animation to my game!

Drawing a Scene

Drawing a Scene was very easy this time because I am very used to the tools to create a drawing in a scene. I use the paint tool the most because it is works the best and automatically straightensd out the lines. I used drawing a scene tutorial to create the main menu in my game. I also used it to create a bookshelf that holds different difficulty books. This is new in my game this year is by having a  difficulty selection.

Adding a Scene

Adding a Scene was not that hard this year since I did it last year and new what I was doing. I added the main menu, about menu, and help menu. I also did the Adding Buttons tutorial while I did adding a scene. It worked ou really well. Now I can navigate through all the menus with a few simple buttons.

Game Time

     Right now in my game I am making all of the scenes and editing them. I am going to add actions and add animations later after I get all of the scenes done. I have kind of hit a detour because I cannot decide whether I want to use drag and drop or the keyboard. I am also having trouble with all of the coding. I think the most exciting thing about my game is hopefully I'll have it to where you can create your own story. Hopefully each player will have a different outcome at the end of the game. The most difficult part in my game is having it cutomizable by other players. I will need help in coding this feature in my game. So far I have not changed anything in my game from my paper prototype but I'm sure I will change some things.

Changes in Globaloria

If I could change one thing about Globaloria it would be all the extra work you have to do other than your game. I understand communicating with other schools about our game and experience in this class but I think it takes away from the game a little bit. I would rather finish the game or after each very important thing in the game then blog about it instead of having to blog about things that doesn’t really involve our game. I think the students would benefit from this by focusing more on our final game and having a better completed game.

                This class puts a lot on your shoulders and has many other responsibilities other than working on the game. I wish I could focus on the game more Instead of having to worry about stuff like blogging, learning log, and constantly updating team pages and wiki’s. I enjoy this class but there is a lot of things that get kind of annoying having to always do and update. I’m not trying to say that everything is bad in this class it’s just I think this class expects too much of you. I don’t want an easy class or easy A it’s just that I am involved in sports and trying to take care of other very important school work. I also would like to do other stuff in my life other than school, sports, and Globaloria.

Exploring other schools wiki's

     Our class explored other students wiki's across west virginia. I found a pretty interesting one at George Washington High School. A group of kids made a game called "3 ways 2 die." If my teacher caught me making a game called this or even relates to this. We would be in big trouble. As I kept looking through their team page I never really figured out the learning "goal" of the game.
      The game also contained guns in it which was also "interesting." I guess since they're in high school they are allowed to do this. I am looking forward to seeing what thier game turns out to be at hte end of the year. Maybe i'm talking to soon. Maybe it could turn out to be a really good game!

Christmas Break

I had a great Christmas and a New Year. I got sick on the very first day of the break but after that it was great after that. We had family over on Christmas Eve and exchanged gifts. Then went to bed and very excited for the morning. I could barely sleep! I finally woke up and went downstairs with my other two brothers. I got an awesome homeade soda maker and a new bow. I also got a couple games for my Playstation 3. I had basketball practice most of the week off but other than that it was good. It went by really fast though. Then on New Years Eve, my family went to the Chinese restaurant with some friends. Then went home and waited on the upcoming New Year. On New Years Day we stayed home and that night had some friends over and now back at school. Now I'm looking forward to an upcoming spring break.

Home for the Holidays

I am looking forward to the holidays this year. We have several traditions every year at Christmas time. On black friday or a couple days after Thanksgiving we set up the Christmas tree. then the next weekend me and my dad set up Christmas lights. Then on Christmas Eve we usually go to my grandmother's and exchange gifts with each other. It's a tradition we do every year for the past several years even before I was born. Then on Christmas morning we wake up around 6:45 then go downstairs and open up gifts from "Santa."
After we open up gifts on Christmas morning, we go to my dad's moms house and meet with my dad's side of the family

Santa Clause

    If Santa could bring me or anyone else something I would probably pick giving someone who is in need or has had a hard time. I would hope they would get whatever they have asked for that they have never gotten before. I am very fortunate to have the things I have and the Christmas's that i have had. That's why I jope that Santa will bring something to someone in need exactlry what they want.

Snow days, Snow days

      On my snowdays I usually wake up around 9:30, go downstairs and watch TV for a little bit. Then I usually have basketball practice which always isn't the funnest in the world. Then I come home and just relax for a little bit. I always go outside on snow days. That is probably my favorite part of snow days other than missing school. Sometimes I'll be out there for two hours or longer! My two brothers and I all go out and play together whether it's a snowball fight or snowboarding. After we come in we get some hot chocolate and Oatmeal Creme Pies by Little Debbie. If I can't find anything to do I'll play my PS3 for a little bit then when night falls, my dad and I will watch college basketball or football. That's pretty much my snow day. what's yours?

Imaginig Your Game

I have just completed my Imagining Your Game project and it helped me to see more ideas in my game. When I was writing the paragraph(100 Words) helped me to start thinking of different ideas. One of my biggest features is having where the player can edit certain parts of the story. I hope that every time someone plays my game that they will have a fifferent outcome every time. I Enjoyed making the flash version, it helped me figure out my character's apperance

Mini Game Project

This year, the mini game was not as bad as last year. I knew what I was doing this time but still struggled at certain points when I had to change the code for it to work. A new feature in this years mini game was adding an enemy. The wolf was added to the game so everytime you run into it, you reset. Doing the mini game has gave me a few ideas for my game. Excited to start on my game here pretty soon!

Choosing a Topic

The past couple days we have been working on finding a topic for our game. We had to answer questions about what our topic is and what resources we are using to incoperate in our game. Game Idea

I have a very different game idea than last year. This year I am making a game where you go on adventure with my old character from my game last year (Spike). In my game this year you have to go through and edit all kinds of different errors in a story for example in one part of the book you must edit it's punctuation. The biggest feature this year is you pretty much get to recreate your own story. This means that if you get three different students and they play the game. I guarantee that all three will have a completely different story from what they started at. I am very excited to get started and can't wait to see how it turns out.

Internet Safety

I learned a lot of things about Internet safety this year. I learned we are not allowed put up pictures of ourselves or friends. We can't post anything about where we live or anything personal. If somone is doing something that they are not suppose to be doing we alert the teacher immediatley.

My Expierence with the Wikis and Blogs

I am starting my second year of Globaloria and it is a lot easier this year creating blogs and setting up our wikis. Now that we know all the tools and codes to make these we can get it done faster and be more customized to what we like. I've added videos and pictures and backgrounds to my wiki. Last year I only added pictures, Now my wiki is fully customized by me. The blog was a little confusing setting up at first but now i have it figured out.

Playing to Learn

I reviewed two games the past two days and I found one that taught me alot about the bones and their names and where they are in the body. This was a very interesting game. I played another one that had no learning topic at all! this game is called "Nothing but Net." I really enjoyed playing the game but i didnt learn anything. This game can be a very good one if it has more interesting features and a learning topic.
